In this epic tale of extraordinary voyages, tumultuous love affairs and deadly conflicts, Virgil tells the unforgettable story of Aeneas and the origins of the Roman people. It begins as Aeneas sets sail from Troy in search of a better life in the aftermath of the city's destruction. His travels take him to Carthage, to the underworld and finally to Italy, where he founds the city that will produce one of the most powerful empires the world has ever known.

Beautifully written, this epic poem proves a more than worthy successor to Homer's epics The Iliad and The Odyssey. Filled with heroic feats and unbridled passion, The Aeneid is a consummate portrait of a man torn between his duty to his people and his own heart.
